Join Dementia Research

Join Dementia Research offers any UK resident over the age of 18 the opportunity to take part in dementia research. Anyone can register their interest, with or without a diagnosis of dementia.

We are currently recruiting participants for the DETERMIND study 

 What happens when you register?

When you sign up to Join Dementia Research, the information you provide is used to match you to studies you may be able to take part in, both online, nationally and in your local area. The service connects registered volunteers with dementia researchers across the UK who are looking for people to join their studies.

You can review your study matches once you register and then it’s your decision whether to take part. Taking part means you will make a real difference to the future of dementia care, diagnosis and treatment.

We are currently recruiting participants for the DETERMIND study

"Determinants of quality of life, care and costs, and consequences of inequalities in people with dementia and their carers"

DETERMIND is designed to address critical, fundamental, and as yet unanswered questions about inequalities, outcomes and costs following diagnosis with dementia. These answers are needed to improve the quality of care, and therefore the quality of life, of those with dementia and their carers. Our overall aim is to explore and understand inequalities in dementia care and what drives good and bad quality of life, outcomes and costs for people with dementia and their carers following diagnosis.

Inclusion criteria

All people clinically diagnosed with dementia within 6 months of entry onto the study can be included. Informal or formal carers can only be included onto the study with consent from the person with dementia. People with dementia do not have to be able to provide informed consent. If this is the case, then a consultee will be used to provide consent.

For our LGBTQ+ ‘seldom heard’ cohort, we will include all people with dementia irrespective of how long they have been diagnosed with the condition. Consent will be obtained prior to any interview.

Exclusion criteria

People with mild cognitive impairment or subjective memory complaints.

People with dementia who have been diagnosed outside of the 6 month window onto the study

Carers who do not have the consent of the person with dementia to participate on the study
