About

The Institute of Mental Health seeks to help transform our understanding and treatment of mental illness. We are a partnership between two highly respected organisations, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and The University of Nottingham. Since our formation in 2006, the Institute has established a track record of success, with achievements in pioneering and innovative, service-facing, inter-disciplinary research. We host eight centres of excellence, alongside other key areas of mental health research.

The Institute of Mental Health:

• Manages a diverse range of active research grants which total £46 million
• Hosts MindTech - a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) HealthTech Research Centre for Mental Health (MindTech) focused on the development of new technology for mental healthcare.
• Hosts the Cochrane Schizophrenia Group for the evaluation of the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of people with psychotic illnesses
• Hosts the NIHR Clinical Research Network East Midlands (CRN EM) 
• Hosts the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration East Midlands (ARC EM)
• Hosts the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) mental health and technology theme
• Has 33 full and associate professors, over 100 PhD students, external members and publishes more than 500 peer-reviewed journal papers per year
• Funds several Managed Innovation Networks (MINs) that ‘bridge the gap between research and practice’
• Hosts six prestigious National Institute for Health Senior Investigator Award positions
