Where is the research taking place?

There are three Hubs in England, which are each made up of a collection of around three to five NHS Trusts. The sites listed below are open and actively recruiting new participants:

Who is taking part in the research?

We are looking for 314 children / young people (aged between 6 and 16 years old) with ADHD and suspected tics and their parents/carers to take part. (Please note, to be able to take part, both the child/young person AND one parent/carer need to agree to participate).

The child/young person will either be taking medication and is being considered for a medication change or they will be about to start medication for the first time for their ADHD.

How will participants (children/young people) be identified?

Participants and their parents/carers may be approached by their usual care team directly or they may see a Summary information leaflet, poster or other advert in a waiting area or clinic room and choose to refer themselves to their usual care team/treating clinician.

Potentially eligible participants may also be contacted by research staff and invited to consider taking part in the research.

How will the research be conducted?

Participants who are eligible and agree to take part will be allocated, at random, using a computer programme, to take one of the two medications:

1. Modified-release methylphenidate tablets
2. Guanfacine extended release tablets

Once enrolled in the study, and following initial screening, participants will be asked to complete the following:

• Face-to-face clinic visit
• 12 Weekly visits (online, via phone or face-to-face)
• 6-month visit (online, via phone or face-to-face)
• 12-month visit (online, via phone or face-to-face)

All information collected during the course of this study will be kept safe and confidential.
