Using the existing “Knee pain and related health in the community study” (KPIC) cohort of over 3,000 primary care patients over the age of 40 years of age in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, a new sub-study will explore how anxiety and depression due to COVID-19 and its consequences alters the experience of pain, quality of life, medical help-seeking, medication use and over the counter drug use. The new study will compare the current experience with earlier reports from this cohort who have been surveyed on three occasions over the last five years. The study is funded by the Nottingham NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (musculoskeletal and mental health and technology themes) and the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration East Midlands.
