Heike Bartel is Associate Professor of German at the University of Nottingham with special interest in the study of interdisciplinary narratives of illness, health and recovery in German and other languages.

She has led AHRC- and Wellcome-funded projects in the field with particular focus on eating disorders in boys and men. She is currently ‘translating’ such experiences of illness into training tools for healthcare using animation and video. She has also worked and published on 18^th-century and contemporary poetry and women’s writing.
