A writing project that seeks to contribute to the development and enhancement of the social and cultural environment of inclusion for refugees arriving from Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

Consisting of thirteen workshops Write Here: Sanctuary involves a range of writing activities that include; drawing maps of childhood, story and folk telling, rhythm and rhyme, reading and writing poems.  Rebuilding social networks by raising self-esteem and confidence, engagement also facilitates cultural knowledge exchanges between the newly arrived and host country.

Research on expressive writing and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) Smyth et al (2009) suggests that expressive writing can assist with the regulation and reduction of physiological and psychological reactivity of PTSD such as re-experiencing, avoidance and hyper-arousal.
