Dr Isabel Gois is a Fellow at the Institute of Mental Health, University of Nottingham. Isabel is a philosopher by training and has over 20 years of experience teaching philosophy in a variety of settings, including alternative education provision, children’s residential homes, prisons and probation.

Her current research focuses on the use of philosophical methods of inquiry and dialogue to assist individuals in contact with the Criminal Justice System, as well as the staff who assist them, achieve better mental health outcomes and productive engagement with specialist services. In collaboration with Prof Eddie Kane (Director Centre for Health and Justice, IMH), she is the co-founder of the Me-thinking project which is working to develop an evidence-based philosophy intervention aimed at supporting and improving metacognitive functioning in prison populations.
