As part of International Open Access Week 2022, Professor Eddie Kane has been recognised for his contribution to open science.

In awarding his certificate, publishers Elsevier highlight the importance of open science in driving societal progress and advancing the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Recently, Professor Kane published an open access article with Elsevier, receiving a total of 3,427 downloads. The article was linked to the UN SDGs, helping to tackle some of the world’s greatest challenges.

Published in the Lancet Public Health, COVID-19: a public health approach to manage domestic violence is needed was linked to the following UN SDGs:

• SDG 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
• SDG 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
• SDG 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels

This recognition demonstrates the Institute’s commitment to ensuring our research has a global impact, as evidenced through our collaboration with the World Health Organisation and in our recently published five-year strategy.
