Our latest paper, published in Criminal Behaviour and Mental Health, investigates the time and resources police in England and Wales spend on mental health related incidents.

Anecdotally, a disproportionate amount of police resources are spent on incidents related to mental illness. Our research however, suggests this is not necessarily the case. We found that police are spending a potentially increasing amount of time on matters invoving vulnerable people with wider social needs, which may be perceived as mental health related.
