I have joined the University of Nottingham as a Principal Research Fellow. My research seeks to understand and support social inclusion and quality of life in people with dementia.

For the past 6 years I have been Programme Manager for DETERMIND; an ESRC/NIHR funded prospective cohort that examines and addresses inequalities and inequities in the post-diagnostic dementia care pathway. I have also been  responsible for leading Workstream 6 of DETERMIND, which seeks to understand and improve the diagnostic disclosure process. This work has led to high-profile and policy relevant publications on the impact of an early vs timely diagnosis as well as the generation of two PhD studies which I currently supervise along with two other PhD students.

Prior to managing DETERMIND, I was a Psychology Lecturer at Bournemouth University, where I also completed my PhD. My study explored ways to promote social inclusion in rural-dwelling older men with dementia in England and combined concepts of rurality and masculinity. I have lectured in areas of social psychology, exploring the concepts of ‘self’ and ‘identity’ and their links to positive psychological well-being, as well as advanced qualitative research methods and analysis. Throughout my career I have supervised numerous undergraduate and Masters students’ projects and supported many of them to publish in peer-reviewed academic journals.
