Emma Putland is a doctoral researcher based at the Centre for Dementia and the School of English.

She is currently exploring how people with dementia, carers and family/friends respond to popular visual and linguistic portrayals of dementia, and how individuals relate these to their own experiences and understandings. This research aims to provide further insight into the role that social representations play in comprehending and responding to dementia, particularly focusing on the nuances of interpretation, in order to consider the limitations and potential of popular portrayals moving forward.
