Marco Brigiano is an Italian clinical psychologist and final-year PhD student at the University of Bologna, under the supervision of Professor Rabih Chattat. His doctoral research focuses on the psychosocial dimensions of dementia, with a particular focus on the role of self-stigma in shaping help-seeking behaviours and the social health of people with dementia. His work combines quantitative and qualitative approaches and aims to inform the development of stigma reduction strategies and more inclusive models of psychosocial support.

Marco will present an ongoing study that focuses on how dementia‑related stigma constitutes a psychosocial barrier to timely diagnosis and access to care. The study investigates the impact of self‑stigma on social health and help‑seeking among people living with dementia (PLWD), while also examining public and affiliate stigma among informal caregivers and cognitively unimpaired older adults. Early data suggest an inverse relationship between self‑stigma and help‑seeking among PLWD, and these initial findings further underscore the role of stigma as a significant barrier to social health and help‑seeking within dementia care.
