The Centre for Dementia’s Dr Emma Broome has been successful in her application for a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Three Schools Dementia Career Development Award.

This is the latest in a string of success stories for Emma, who recently won in two categories in the University of Nottingham ‘Celebrating Our People’ awards. Earlier this year Emma beat off stiff competition to represent Early Career Researchers in a national dementia research group

Emma is a Research Fellow in Hearing Sciences and will use the award to develop her career as a future Dementia Research Leader and apply for an NIHR fellowship. Through her research she aims to bring together two priority areas of research: dementia and hearing loss.

The NIHR ‘three Schools’ consists of the Schools for Primary Care Research (SPCR), Public Health Research (SPHR) and Social Care Research (SSCR) creating a unique collaboration between leading academic centres in England.

The Three Schools’ Dementia Research Programme aims to develop the evidence base for dementia-related practice in England by commissioning and conducting high-quality research. The Programme builds on research within each School and will carry out research to address key gaps in the evidence base working collaboratively across primary care, public health, and social care. Since September 2021, it has funded nine research projects and 16 individuals are receiving career development awards.
