A new opera based on research led by Professor Justine Schneider premiered in Nottingham recently.

Take Care centres on the life of Katie, a carer for people living with dementia, and includes a cast of professional singers and carers. Based on findings from the BOUGH study (Broadening our Understanding of Good Home Care), the opera, funded by Arts Council England/National Lottery and the Economic & Social Research Council, aims to portray the highs and lows of caring for someone with dementia.

One audience member remarked, "It was interesting seeing my everyday experiences portrayed by actors. I found myself reflecting on similar situations I’ve been in." Whilst another found it, "Stunning, moving, absorbing, enriching, challenging. Depicts the realities of caring with integrity."

Trailers and behind-the-scenes footage can now be viewed on the Lakeside Arts website, along with still photographs from rehearsals. For more information on Take Care, contact Professor Justine Schneider: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
