Applications are invited for the above post in the School of Sociology and Social Policy and based at the Institute of Mental Health, Jubilee Campus.

The researcher will work as part of a team conducting a study into the impact on people with dementia of community singing.  Despite anecdotal evidence of its benefits, the effects of singing on people with a diagnosis of dementia and their carers have not been systematically evaluated. The aim of PRESIDE 2024 is to explore the feasibility of conducting a randomised trial with waiting-list design, paving the way for a larger study in the future.  PRESIDE 2024 is funded by NIHR Research for Social Care.  The joint chief investigators are Professor Justine Schneider and Dr Becky Dowson.

The role will include helping to set up and publicise 3 singing groups in Nottinghamshire and surrounding counties, and recruitment of participants.  It will involve preparation of data collection tools and interview guides, collection and analysis of quantitative data and analysis of qualitative data (interviews). The role holder will assist with writing for publication in peer-reviewed journals, presenting findings at conferences and disseminating findings to study participants, service providers and commissioners via a range of methods and media. The role will also involve applying for adoption of the study by the NIHR Clinical Research Network and administration of the project team meetings. 

This part-time (29 hours per week) post is available from 1^st September 2022 and the contract will be until 29^th February 2024.  The person appointed will be based at the Jubilee campus of the University of Nottingham and will be accountable to Professor Justine Schneider.
